Work

Introduction

Secure development treats security as part of design, implementation, review and maintenance. The aim is to make safer behaviour easier to build and verify throughout an application’s life.

Why it matters

Clear boundaries, validation and useful tests reduce avoidable defects and make support investigations easier. Reusable controls and review habits help security improvements survive future changes rather than remaining one-off fixes.

Key topics to explore

  • Threat modelling and security requirements
  • Input validation and context-aware output encoding
  • Safe database queries and error handling
  • Code review and security regression tests
  • Dependency updates and secrets handling

Practice & notes

Possible first exercise: Review a small feature from design to deployment. Note its trust assumptions, add one relevant negative test and write down a reusable principle supported by the result.

Future notes will record the setup, observations, open questions and principles learned. This exercise is a starting idea, not a completed assessment.
