Learning Spanish Through Reading, Translation and Writing
I'm approaching Spanish in much the same way I approached learning music: through a combination of practice, analysis and creation. Reading and translation help me understand how the language works, while writing and speaking help me turn that understanding into something I can use.
| Music | Spanish | What you're developing |
|---|---|---|
| Playing | Speaking | Real-time expression and fluency |
| Listening | Listening to speech | Recognition, comprehension and intuition |
| Reading sheet music | Reading Spanish books | Understanding existing structures |
| Transcribing | Translating | Close attention to how something is constructed |
| Composing | Writing | Independent creation using internalised language |
| Improvising | Spontaneous conversation | Expressing ideas without consciously planning every sentence |
