Why we built our own booking platform
Connection Clinic originally launched with a simple landing page and SimplyBook.
At the time it was exactly what we needed.
Therapists could manage availability, clients could book sessions and we could focus on validating the business.
As the clinic grew, the website became much more than a landing page.
The brand, content and user experience were evolving, but the booking experience still lived on a separate platform.
We considered building our own system several times, but there wasn't a compelling reason.
Then we discovered a limitation.
SimplyBook couldn't support the commission model we wanted between therapists and Connection Clinic using Stripe.
That changed everything.
Instead of adapting the business around software, we decided to build software around the business.
Today the platform includes:
- A therapist portal.
- Individual availability management.
- Bespoke booking journeys.
- Automatic commission splitting.
- Different services and commission structures for each therapist.
- A consistent Connection Clinic experience from homepage to booking.
The result wasn't simply a better booking system.
It gave us complete control over how the clinic operates and allows the platform to evolve alongside the business instead of limiting it.
Lessons
Build bespoke software only when necessity demands it.
Off-the-shelf software is often the right choice early on.
Build your own systems when your business has grown beyond the assumptions those products were designed for.

Your website isn't the problem. Your systems are.
A neglected website is often a symptom of weak ownership, inconsistent process and short-term thinking.
