Three ways to become easier to recommend

Search has shifted from ranking pages to recommending businesses.

That changes the job of a website. It still needs to rank, load quickly and explain things clearly, but it also needs to make the business easier to trust, cite and recommend.

The three principles I think matter most are authority, originality and reputation.

First, own the topic.

Choose something you sell. Break it into the questions your customers ask, then connect the pages. The aim is not to publish isolated articles. The aim is to become a useful source on the whole topic.

That means covering the fundamentals, the edge cases, the common objections, the practical details and the decisions people need help making. Authority comes from being genuinely useful across the subject, not from writing one impressive page and hoping it carries everything.

Second, say something new.

Publish something AI does not already know. That might mean original research, first-hand experience, experiments, opinions, customer insight or proprietary data. The point is to find the gap between what is already online and what your business genuinely knows.

Originality does not have to mean inventing a brand new theory. Often it means explaining what you have learned from real work, real customers and real constraints. That is the material generic content cannot easily copy.

Third, get people talking.

Build a reputation beyond your own website. Earn relevant mentions from respected websites, podcasts, publications, directories, communities and partners. AI notices who is talking about you, and reputation is built across the web, not just on your own domain.

None of this is a trick. It is just the work of becoming a clearer, more useful and more credible source.

If you want to become easier to recommend, build authority around your topic, publish things only you could know, and give other people a reason to mention you.
